The Brits immediately embraced the self-titled debut album by The Clash upon its U.K. release on April 8, 1977. It took us Yanks over two years to catch up with a modified version of The Clash (issued by Columbia in July 1979). In the interval, the Clash cut a second disc, Give ‘Em Enough Rope (November 1978), which was a big hit in England but gained only minimal attention in the U.S. In late 1979, their third album, London Calling, changed everything and solidified The Clash as the best punk rock band ever.
